Preparing your body and mind for the Ayurveda Cleanse
(Purva-Karma)

Ayurveda believes that in order to do a cleanse, one must prepare the body, mind and spirit and gradually introduce the herbs, diet plan, meditation, yoga leading upto mono-diet of soups or khichdi, and, even fasting from grains all together.
However, to reach that point of eating only soups, or fasting, one must prepare mind and body. This ancient preparation plan is called Purva karma. It prepares the body for deep detoxification and supports the pulling of metabolic wastes from the GI tract.
During a comprehensive consultation, we determine your Prakruti (Constitution), Vikruti (current Imbalance), and, stage of Agni (Digestive fire), Dhatus (Tissues), and, Mala (Elimination).
We try to understand your stress triggers. Triggers that set off the imbalance in terms of food habits, daily regimen or lack thereof, seasonal regimen, work or exercise routine.
After a comprehensive consultation, a personal CLEANSE plan is then prepared. Purvakarma may use detoxifying and rejuvenating herbs prepared in clarified butter for lubricating the body externally as well as internally.

Once your body and mind are prepared to receive healing- we focus on the FIVE SENSE (PANCHA KARMA) Healing. We want to bring all that metabolic waste upto one of the orifices of the body, and, eliminate them by nose, mouth, breath, sweat, and, stool.
Panchakarma offers therapies customized to different senses, or, regions. This is referred to as Pradhana Karma (PRIMARY cleanse)

Post Cleanse
Post Detox program is known as Pashchata.
Paschat means 'after'. Ayurveda does not believe in doing a cleanse cold turkey. We prepare the body and mind for a cleanse. After we are done, we now gradually ease into our normal routine of eating normal foods over a period of a few weeks. We also eat tonifying and strengthening herbs and foods at this time.
We want to replenish, nourish, and restore balance to mind, body and spirit. Often, only eating soups or khichdi for 5 to 7 days can leave a person feeling depleted. This mono diet of soups and khichdis is still continued for another week, while introducing regular dosha pacifying solids.
Herbal Rasayanas may be taken at this time.
