Welcome to our Vedic Herbalist course based on Shrangadhara Samhita and Bhava Prakasha Nighantu, ancient Ayurvedic texts (called Laghu Trayi).
Using the above texts as our core curriculum, we will delve into learning how the ancient Vedic texts classified food, herbs and spices. The course will explore the energetics of herbs and we will be creating basic herbal remedies like churnams, teas, salves, Ayurvedic jams, and oils.
Additionally, you'll discover how to enhance their efficacy through rituals, alchemy, and mindful sourcing. Join us on this enlightening journey into the wisdom of Ayurveda!

Vedic Herbs Level 1 is the first module in the Vedic Herbalist course. In this engaging class, you'll explore the fascinating world of Vedic Herbology (we call it Ayurvedic Dravyology) and uncover the unique distinctions and commonalities between Western, Vedic, and Ayurvedic herbs.
We'll dive into a selection of 20 essential kitchen herbs, examining their energetics, and introduce you to three delightful herbal beverages, along with the Ayurvedic of Anupana. Join us as we journey through ancient herbal alchemy, rituals from Vedic times, and the art of sourcing and preparing spices and herbs.
Bhavaprakasha Nighantu is a 16th century AD Vedic Text on Ayurveda, ancient diets, foods and produce as well as Ayurvedic herbs. It is considered an important work in history of Ayurveda and is part of the Laghu trayi, a triad of minor authoritative works in Ayurveda. This ancient text was published by Acharya Bhavamishra and is divided into three parts: Purva Khanda, Madhyama Khanda, and Uttara Khanda.
Describes plants morphologically and pharmacologically, and includes information on all branches of Ayurveda. Our focus in this course will only be on parts of Chapter 6 of Bhava Prakasha where examples and theory of food and herbs are listed.
Module 3 is principally our labs that can be completed online. We will briefly learn about Sharangadhara Samhita and go on to Practicums and Labs in the third class.
Lab1 Gardening, botany, mantras and rituals for harvesting,
and creating teas and spice mixes
Lab 2 Creation of topical herb salves, hair oil, massage oil and nasya oil from local plants and kitchen herbs.

Students are expected to buy their own herbs and materials.
Note: The above tuition is for ONLINE only. If you want to do some in-person workshop/mentorship or classes, they cost starts from $20 per hour and is an optional add-ons. The students are required to pay for their travel, lodging, and stay when they travel or in-person workshop or mentorship.
